About Oliver Basset Cross
Creative | Storyteller
My name is Oliver Basset Cross, I'm a contemporary artist and writer whose work explores the subtle intersections of nature, emotion, and memory. Through expressive textures, thoughtful use of colour, poetry and textiles I try to capture the spaces between stillness and movement — the fleeting moments that often go unnoticed but linger in feeling.
Working primarily in oil paint, my creations draw inspiration from real life experiences both external and internal. Each piece is a conversation between intuition and observation, reflecting a deep curiosity about how we see, remember, and connect.
My practice is grounded in self exploration. Whether experimenting with new techniques or revisiting timeless subjects, my work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find their own stories within the art that reflects my personal experiences.
A Journey Through Art
Born with an eye for detail and a love of making things by hand, my artistic path has been shaped by years of experimentation, study, and the constant pull to create. My pieces have evolved from small sketches and quiet studies into larger, immersive works that celebrate both simplicity and complexity.
From solo projects to collaborations, exhibitions, and commissioned works, I strive to expand my practice — always seeking to blur the lines between the familiar and the abstract, the intimate and the universal.
A Note from the Artist
“For me, the creative field is about connection — with the world, with others, and with ourselves. I create to translate feeling into form, to hold onto what might otherwise pass us by. Every piece is a fragment of that dialogue — an offering, a question, a moment shared.”
